This project has obtained reforestation incentives for 300+/- hectares which will be replanted in 2007 through 2010. For each of the 300+/- hectares, FONAFIFO* will pay $817 in incentives over five years. Therefore, the total of all these payments will be over $245,000.00. The project expects to apply for additional reforestation incentives for additional hectares in future years. This project currently has over 360+/- hectares enrolled in the natural forest protection incentives. Each year, the payments total $23,123. The project will renew expiring contracts for incentives for additional hectares in 2010, bringing the annual total payments to over $36,000. The income from the Payment for Environmental Service under the modality of Forest Management comes with a cost of 14% of the total received for expenses in technical assistance and silvicultural labor done in the forest.

*FONAFIFO is the National Fund for Forestry Financing. The main objective is to finance the management of existing forests, reforestation processes, forestation, forestry nurseries, agro-forestry systems, recovery of denuded areas and technological changes for the use and industrialization of forestry resources for the benefit of small- and medium-sized land owners in Costa Rica.
